The Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized three important events in Paphos on April 30, 2026, within the framework of the European project OliveOilMedNet, aiming to highlight authenticity, sustainability, and innovation in the Mediterranean olive oil sector.
The events were attended by olive growers and olive oil producers from Cyprus who actively participated in the pilot implementation of the project, which was carried out in seven Mediterranean countries. Representatives of policy-making bodies and research institutions also took part, highlighting the importance of cooperation and networking in the olive oil sector.
Peer Learning Event
A hybrid knowledge and experience exchange event took place at the headquarters of the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, focusing on synergies between the olive oil and tourism sectors. Experts from Neapolis University, the Paphos Development CompanyAphrodite, and the Corsican Public Authority for Trade and Industry presented best practices, as well as strategies linking local production with tourism and sustainable development.
Publicity Event
At the Fitosinn Hotel in Paphos, an event was held presenting the objectives and results of the OliveOilMedNet project, with particular emphasis on methods for determining the authenticity of local extra virgin olive oils by the research organization ELGO-DIMITRA. Participating producers actively engaged, expressing their views on the innovative method.
Demonstration Event of the Digital Catalogue of Authentic and “Green” Olive Oils
The third event of the day included the presentation of the pilot implementation of the innovative authenticity method in Cyprus, as well as the demonstration of the digital catalogue of authentic and sustainable olive oil products. The Ladolia and Koroneiki varieties were a focal point, as they were included in the project’s pilot implementation.
At the same time, an olive oil tasting activity featuring the above varieties was held. The evening concluded with a gastronomic presentation of local dishes and recipes based on Cypriot extra virgin olive oils and local agri-food products.
The events were attended by the President of the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Georgios Mais, Acting Mayor of Paphos Mr. Angelos Onisiforou, Mayor of Geroskipou Mr. Nikos Palios, as well as representatives of the Pancyprian Federation of Recreation Center Owners Associations, the Paphos “Aphrodite” Development Company, the Cyprus University of Technology, Neapolis University, and the Youth Chamber.
The above events demonstrated that through modern research approaches, the use of technology, and collaboration between producers, research bodies, and institutional organizations, the added value of olive oil is highlighted not only as a high-quality agricultural product but also as a pillar of culture, identity, and economic development.
