Demonstration Event of the OliveOilMedNet Project – 1 February 2026, 12th EXPOTROF
The Preveza Chamber of Commerce participated in the 12th EXPOTROF exhibition, which took place at the MEC Paiania, Athens from 31 January to 2 February 2026. At a specially designed stand, the OliveOilMedNet project was presented, highlighting its results and its contribution to safeguarding the quality and authenticity of extra virgin olive oils.
Moreover, on 1 February 2026, a demonstration event was organized with the title: “Quality and Authenticity Schemes of Mediterranean Extra Virgin Olive Oils.” The event was held in cooperation with scientific staff of ELGO–DIMITRA and focused on olive oil quality, the methodology, and the innovative tools developed within the project that enhance the credibility and added value of extra virgin olive oil.
The event opened with a welcome address by the President of the Preveza Chamber of Commerce Mr. Mpouris, followed by the following presentations:
- Presentation of the OliveOilMedNet project, Eirini Sylleli, Preveza Chamber
- The quality of extra virgin olive oil, Konstantina Liva, Scientific Officer, ELGO–DIMITRA
- The Demonstration Methodology Manual for Authenticity and the Authentic Olive Oil Database, Head of the Kalamata Olive Oil Laboratory, ELGO–DIMITRA
The event concluded with an open discussion and a tasting of extra virgin olive oils from the local Preveza variety “Lianolia.” Participants had the opportunity to become acquainted with olive oils from local producers who took part in the pilot implementation of the project, to taste their distinctive organoleptic characteristics, and to engage directly with the olive growers themselves, who presented their selected products.
The event was honored by the presence of Ms. Maria Katsouli, Director of the ATHENA International Olive Oil Competition; Mr. Dionysis Vertzagias, President of the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Zakynthos; and Mr. Christos Siomos, olive expert.
The OliveOilMedNet project highlights the decisive role of science and innovation in ensuring the quality and authenticity of olive oil, strengthening consumer trust and its international competitiveness.
