The Agricultural University of Tirana participated in the workshop organized at QTTB on “The Authentic Taste of Indigenous Olive Oil.” The event gathered lecturers and students from AUT and the University of Vlora “Ismail Qemali”, along with olive oil processors, farmers, and olive growers.
Topics discussed included:
- Smart choices from the olive grove to the table to maximize production and preserve quality
- The “OliveOilMedNet” project and its role in promoting sustainability and authenticity in the Mediterranean olive oil sector
- Organic production practices in olive orchards
- Live demonstrations and organoleptic evaluation of indigenous olive oils by panel test expert
The Faculty of Biotechnology and Food, (AUT) presented the importance of implementing this project in the Albanian olive oil sector, highlighted results from the 1st pilot period (2024–2025) of OliveOilMedNet in Albania and start of the 2nd period of sampling monovarietal extra virgin olive oil. Also, invited farmers, producers and olive growers to become part of the project platform and to participate in the trainings that AUT will develop within the framework of the project on the protocol for the implementation of environmentally friendly techniques in olive groves and olive mills. AUT emphasized that our regional olive oils hold unique natural characteristics that make them a true model of quality and authenticity.
