20/02/2025

Our project OliveOilMedNet with the title : Mediterranean Network for the Promotion of Sustainability and Authenticity in the Olive Oil Sector has complete one year and implemented actions regarding to the quality of olive oil, contributed to the promotion of innovation and conducted research in participating countries of Mediterranean. Below is a summary of our key achievements to date:

Preliminary Study: A thorough examination of key policies across various Mediterranean regions has been conducted, with particular attention to:

  • Quality and authenticity standards
  • Sustainable cultivation and production methodologies
  • Regulatory frameworks governing the olive oil sector

This analysis has established a foundation for developing industry-wide best practices that reinforce transparency, reliability, and long-term sustainability.

Development of Pilot Methodologies: In alignment with our objectives, we have formulated two comprehensive methodological guidelines:

  1. Authenticity Verification Methodology: A framework ensuring rigorous authentication standards to protect against fraud and misrepresentation.
  2. Eco-Friendly Cultivation and Production Methodology: Guidelines promoting sustainable agricultural and production techniques that mitigate environmental impact.

These methodologies are essential tools in fostering higher quality and more responsible production within the industry.

Strategic Collaboration and Innovation: Leveraging insights from previous initiatives, we have strengthened existing frameworks while introducing new approaches through pilot activities. Our efforts have focused on:

  • Facilitating the exchange of technical knowledge and best practices
  • Conducting field tests to evaluate new methodologies under real-world conditions
  • Enhancing cooperation among Mediterranean stakeholders to drive sector-wide improvements

Outreach and Knowledge Dissemination: Beyond research and development, we have actively engaged with the community and relevant stakeholders through:

  • Hosting meetings in Preveza (Greece) and Bari (Italy)
  • Launching our official website as a central platform for knowledge sharing
  • Implementing targeted outreach initiatives to ensure that findings and innovations are effectively communicated

This milestone marks only the beginning of our long-term commitment. OliveOilMedNet remains dedicated to sustainable olive oil production through innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Together, let’s shape a greener and more authentic future for Mediterranean olive oil.
